That’s one of the indispensable things. Frenzy, Rationality and a temperature of about 18 °

Viola works with great dedication and professionalism in any field, but her strong passion for the Research and experimentation prompts her to observe and discover contemporary expressions in an ever-present way more in depth.

I find particularly interesting that she needs to arrive at the photographic act as the conclusion of A path that explores various techniques that to the end make up the final result.

“An hypothetical “IF” is the clue that glides from the plane of visible to the one of the invisible, or to the potentiality that the vision has when it joins with the fantasy. Viola Pantano retrieves the collage, an element of the Art History, and proposes it in its digital specificity, bringing the fiction to its highest degree of perfection. The quietness of a landscape lights up for an unnatural vortex that retrieves from the home world an object loadd with incandescent connotations, where the expressive force of the photo is focuses. It opens to delicate questions that the domestic world doesn’t solve,  except with rushed certaintes.”

(Art critic, professor and curator of art and design exhibitions)

“Immersing yourself in the world of Viola Pantano, surrounding yourself with her imagination during a visit to the exhibition “Promised Gravity” , or just observe one of the pictures of the exhibition means to be placed in front of the portraits and join them in a dimension on the border between Space and time, where an endless moment of pure and infinite imagination is transmitted with sharp majesty. A place where if you want  to abandon yourself , you will find an invitation to enjoy the journey created by an artist whose most valuable weapon is the ability to dream. “

(Curator and critic of Italian-American art)

“Viola Pantano’s landscapes are real-world places, but actually those places are completely transfigured. The common perspective setting geometers the spaces, letting lose to these places Their real value in order to turn them into theatrical backdrops. It is in these parallel worlds that “Imaginary Friends” come on the stage to give birth to a show in which the artist is both a screenwriter and a film director.”

Christian Omodeo
(Franco-Italian art-curator specialist of urban art)

“This is perhaps the most exquisite aesthetic value of Viola Pantano’s work. The one of the “mise en abyme” is the device used in paining, in literature and in filmmaking of placing an image or a story, inside a similar image or story, in order to produce the effect of an infinite reflection of the image.

Every object or character seems to bring with itself a special dimension. it leaves the viewer’s eye looks at that dimension, and, seduced by a promise (deplored) of gravity, loses any reference. The task of the work is enchanting; The one of the observer to be enchanted.”

Photography to document the imaginary … «A lie told in the best way or a hope»: Viola Pantano describes in this way what she is looking for in an Art Work. All the expressive languages are, in fact, used by the artist to represent the imaginary, the impossible, the ideal; the different technical tools are only a pretext to reach a single solution: “to let come true” non-existent situations and to share images otherwise confined only in her head. Above all, it is with photography, a means paradoxically born with the intention of documenting the reality in the most faithful way is possible, that the artist creates parallel worlds and gives a shape to her personal vision of things. Through the digital assembly, her photos are transformed into documents of the imagination. Photography stops being pure registration and becomes a story. The suspended movements with which objects and characters are represented, similarly to choreographies developed over time but condensed into a single image, skilfully combine photography with dance and video.

However, her images are never completely abstract and dreamy. The moments of pure imagination, to which she manages to arrive, always start from a real inspiration and are described with clear lucidity.

The contrast between real and virtual, which is a protagonist of her works, actually characterizes all contemporary culture, this historical moment in which, as never before, these two dimensions are more and more indistinguishable. And perhaps it is precisely for this reason that Viola Pantano’s works want to be, at the same time, both lies but also hopes. After all, art has always served this purpose. Even Picasso said: “Art is a lie that brings us closer to the truth”.
